Amazing Electric Wheelbarrows

Amazing Electric Wheelbarrows – Buyer’s Guide

Best Electric Wheelbarrows PinThere are many reasons why an electric wheelbarrow is the tool of choice when it comes to gardening, construction or any other type of outdoor work that involves shifting plants, debris, aggregates and much more.

But with so many options on the market, it can send your brain into a spin when deciding on which is the best electric wheelbarrow – but we’ve got your back.

In this article, we are going to look at why you might need an electric wheelbarrow and the best ones for the job.

It isn’t very often that you find perfectly flat, smooth ground, especially on construction sites or gardens that are being worked on, and this rough terrain can prove almost impossible for a manual wheelbarrow.

Not to mention, the hazard of tripping and sustaining an injury when traversing over uneven ground with a wheelbarrow containing a heavy load. But an electric option can greatly reduce these risks.

What’s more, if you have a heavy workload that requires a lot of trips to load and unload your wheelbarrow, a manual option can leave you feeling exhausted after just a few trips. For larger jobs and heavier loads, an electric wheelbarrow will do much of the hard work for you.

Additionally, if you struggle with mobility, an electric wheelbarrow allows you to continue working outdoors without the added stress of transporting heavy or awkward goods.

Types Of Electric Wheelbarrow

It probably won’t come as much of a surprise to learn that motorised wheelbarrows come in a variety of forms – usually petrol-powered or battery-powered

Petrol wheelbarrows require much more maintenance including replacing filters and spark plugs as well as regular draining, so whilst these are a good choice, for the purposes of this article, we will place our focus on battery-operated wheelbarrows.

You will also notice that electric wheelbarrows come with either wheels or tracks, the latter being much more preferable for use on sloping ground due to their stability. However, both versions are equally adept at transporting even the most difficult goods such as liquid concrete and heavy rubble.

The Best Electric Wheelbarrows On The Market

As we mentioned, there is a huge range of electric wheelbarrows but we have scoured the market to bring you, what is, in our opinion, the cream of the crop.

Greenworks Tools 7400007 Cordless Garden Cart - 40v

One of the best value products featured, this snazzy, bright green garden cart is aesthetically pleasing if nothing else – but the good news is that there is a lot more to write home about where this garden cart is concerned.

Weighing just shy of 40kg with the battery, this isn’t a super heavy piece of equipment making transporting it from job to job effortless. It can handle a full load of up to 100kg or 106 litres giving you plenty of space and the wheelbarrow boasts a quick and easy unloading system.

This one is designed to shift heavy loads so it’s ideal for bigger jobs such as construction and landscaping but with its relatively compact size, it is also great for using around the garden. It features backwards and forwards gears and various speeds with a maximum of just over 4kmph.

The downside to this is that the battery is not included so, after paying for the wheelbarrow itself, you will have to add a battery but with the very reasonable price for this model, it’s not going to break the bank.

Smartwiel Battery Powered Wheelbarrow Deluxe

With the ability to shift up to 185 litres, this is certainly the right choice for those big jobs where excess rubble, dirt and other items need to be moved quickly and effectively.

However, it is worth keeping in mind that, despite the large capacity, this one can only withstand a weight of up to 50kg when moving uphill.

The excellent grip on the handles and high-quality bearings means that operation is seamless and easy as well as the addition of a reverse drive so you don’t have to make awkward twists and turns around the garden.

One of the most attractive features of this design is that the wheelbarrow can be folded for easy storage when not in use – something that many of its competitors do not have. In addition, the wheelbarrow comes in a choice of two colours – who said gardening couldn’t come with a touch of personality?

But what really sets this wheelbarrow apart is the extremely durable materials from which it is made – super strong plastic for the tub which is damage resistant and can withstand extreme temperatures as well as a stainless steel frame that won’t rust and will definitely stand the test of time.

Makita DCU180Z Brushless Wheelbarrow

The Makita DCU180z is an electric wheelbarrow powered by two 18v Li-ion batteries (not included!). The powerful brushless motor allows for soft and smooth stats and the 2 speed selector enable great speed control, to a maximum of 3.5 km/h.

This wheelbarrow doesn’t come with a bucket, so be sure to order one to accompany your DCU180x. The DUC180z is ideal for building sites and farms with demanding payloads and terrain.

To prevent punctures it comes with tubeless front tyres and self-sealing rear tyres. Front and rear brakes make it easy to stop the unit and prevent accidental movement.

This wheelbarrow is highly recommended but be aware that you do need to purchase batteries and buckets separately.

PowerPac ED120 Battery Powered Wheelbarrow

Moving up to a slightly higher price range, we find the PowerPac which boasts a range of features sure to excite any outdoor worker- from builders to hobby gardeners. Weighing in at just 42kg, but with a capacity to shift up to 180 litres, this is the definition of mean machine.

If you’re working on hilly terrain, this wheelbarrow is the perfect companion, with the ability to tackle hills up to 35º,  no longer will you have to manually haul heavy loads up and down steep slopes.

The speed can be adjusted simply and quickly using a one-finger control lever and the wheelbarrow boasts an impressive battery life of between 3 and 5 hours, meaning that you have plenty of time to get the job done.

One of the most notable things about this model is that it comes with a huge range of optional extras, making this more than just your average wheelbarrow. A larger trough, snow plough and chain or an additional loading bed takes the PowerPac from a simple loading and unloading tool to the latest in outdoor power technology.

Model 2020 - The Original PowerPac MCE400

Now, there’s no denying that this wheelbarrow comes with something of a hefty price tag, but what else would you expect for top-quality German engineering?

This robust piece of equipment really packs a punch and is able to carry up to 110 litres at full capacity and it doesn’t seem to get tired out since it has a battery time of anywhere between 8 and 10 hours!

It’s a little heavier than the other wheelbarrows on our list, weighing in at 130kg, but this adds to it durability and outright strength. Sitting on sturdy pneumatic tyres and made from strong metal, the wheelbarrow is not only strong but also agile, being able to tackle slopes up to an impressive 40º. Rough terrain isn’t an issue either, since this machine has been designed to manoeuver over tough ground with ease.

A user-friendly control panel makes operating the wheelbarrow a cinch, because who needs to be reading a lengthy instruction manual when there is work to be done?

If all of this isn’t enough to impress you, how about some optional added extras that will make your work even easier – no matter what the weather or conditions? The MCE400 offers users one of the best ranges of accessories including:

  • An electric lifting cylinder
  • Snow shield
  • Broom
  • Larger, 450 litre tub
  • Feeding tray
  • Wooden attachment
  • Trailer seat
  • Transporting box
  • Trailer platform for standing
  • Water tank
  • Multi-sucker

Finally, with its compact size, the MCE400 can be used in any space and is able to easily fit through any standard door so taking it from place to place couldn’t be easier.

Our Best Pick

It’s hard to choose between all of these options but when it comes to choosing the best electric wheelbarrow, we think the ED120 just takes the number one spot. Of course, it would be easy to assume that the MCE400 would be a clear winner and whilst it is a cut above the rest where features and durability are concerned, its higher price puts it just behind its younger brother, the ED120.

For an all-round, affordable option, the ED120 offers plenty of features and is perfect for use on difficult to navigate terrain as well as on flat surfaces. If you’re looking for an electric wheelbarrow that can be used for both heavy-duty and day-to-day tasks, this is the direction you should be headed.

That being said, for smaller jobs and use in your back yard, the Greenworks electric wheelbarrow is ideal. Being one of the lower-priced options where this type of product is concerned, it makes an ideal choice for a first electric wheelbarrow or for people who need something simple yet effective.

That being said, it still has a decent enough capacity that it can be used for larger jobs when the moment calls for it.

Overview

In this modern day, there is no longer a need to manually haul soil, rubble, plants and other things around the garden or any other outdoor workspace. For this reason, an electric wheelbarrow is fast becoming the go-to tool of choice for anyone working in the great outdoors.

Of course, as with anything, there are so many options to choose from that knowing where to start can be something of a challenge.

The size, features and price of the electric wheelbarrow you choose will largely depend on what you intend to use it for and with everything from budget models like the Greenworks which is ideal for home use through to the big guns like the MCE400, there is an electric wheelbarrow to suit every need.

These machines are ideal for anyone who struggles to use a manual wheelbarrow, for use on rugged or sloping ground and for moving extra heavy loads and with many models coming with some handy add-ons, they can be so much more than just a vessel for moving garden waste and the like.
